There is no doubt The Who is one of my all time favorite rock band. Their album Who’s Next, released in 1971, is still part of my remaining collection of vinyl’s. I believe I have owned their album on darn every format ever released: 8-track, cassette, CD, MP3, and digital. Yep, I’m just that old.
“Won’t Get Fooled Again”, the most well known song on the album, will probably keep it’s place in history as the theme song for CSI Miami. Less well known is the song “Going Mobile” written by Pete Townshend with Keith Moon on the drums.
Its lyrics celebrate the ownership of a mobile traveling the open road, and leading a carefree lifestyle. One of the last lines scream “Watch the police and the taxman miss me, I’m mobile” as a defiant statement against tradition.
“Goin’ Mobile” has taken on a whole new meaning now it is 2014!. Did Pete Townshend have a crystal ball? He might have written the words thinking about an RV, but change the image in your head to a smart phone and now you have goin’ mobile 2014 style. Now if we can just remove the one line “play the tape machine”.
Beep. Beep. Oh yeah!
